Well water plumbing in Dillsburg, PA. Pumps, pressure tanks, and iron removal that actually works.
Plenty of plumbers say they "do well work." Few enjoy it. We do. Most homes outside Dillsburg borough - Wellsville, Lewisberry, Franklintown, Warrington Township - run on private wells through fractured shale. Iron, sulfur, hardness, sand, low pH, drought sensitivity. Premier Dillsburg Plumber handles every part of the system from the well casing to the kitchen tap.
What we handle on a private well system
Submersible pump replacement
1/2 to 1.5 HP, 2-wire and 3-wire pumps from Goulds, Franklin, Grundfos. We winch the pump up, replace, heat-shrink the splice, and re-deploy in one afternoon. New pressure switch and gauge included.
Pressure tank service
A waterlogged tank short-cycles the pump and burns it out. We replace with a 32 to 86 gallon WellMate or Amtrol bladder tank, pre-charged correctly for 30/50 or 40/60 cut-in/cut-out.
Iron and sulfur filtration
Air-injected oxidation (AIO) for clear-water iron under 5 ppm. Manganese greensand for combined iron and manganese. Catalytic carbon for hydrogen sulfide. We test on site and size the filter to your real water chemistry, not the brochure default.
Water softener install
Demand-initiated, metered softeners that regenerate based on actual water use - not a clock. They use 60% less salt and waste less water than the boxes sold at home centers. Sized to your hardness and household size.
Acid neutralization
Wells through Triassic sandstone in northern York County often run pH 5.4 to 6.2 - acidic enough to eat through copper pipe. A calcite contact tank raises pH to 7.0+ and protects everything downstream.
Pitless adapter / yard hydrant
When the well casing leaks at the pitless or your frost-free hydrant won't shut off cleanly, we excavate, repair, and re-bury below frost line.
How we diagnose a well system on a service call
- Pressure-switch reading. What's the cut-in and cut-out? Are they within spec for the tank?
- Drawdown test. How many gallons does the system deliver between pump cycles? Tells us tank health and pump output in one number.
- Amperage on the pump. Pulled at the pressure switch with a clamp meter. High amps mean the pump is loaded - sand intrusion, motor wear, or a clog at the foot valve.
- Water chemistry on site. Free test for iron, manganese, hardness, pH, TDS, chlorine. Takes 4 minutes. Tells us what filtration you actually need.
- Visual on the well casing. Cap sealed? Casing intact above grade? Any surface water entering at the cap?
- Recommendations in writing. What needs immediate work, what can wait, what to plan for in 2 to 5 years. Flat-rate quote, no upsell.
