If water is actively flooding your home right now: Shut the main water valve at the meter or in the basement (a quarter-turn lever handle is the most common in newer Dillsburg homes; an older home may have a round handle - turn clockwise until tight). Then kill power to any flooded room at the breaker. Then call us. We can talk you through what we’re going to do while we’re on the way.

What counts as a plumbing emergency - and what can wait until morning

Call right now

  • A pipe is actively spraying or pouring water inside the house.
  • Sewage is backing up into a tub, shower, or floor drain.
  • You smell gas near a water heater or appliance - get out first, then call.
  • No hot water in winter and the unit is leaking from the bottom.
  • A water heater T&P valve is hissing continuously - that’s a pressure event.
  • Sump pump has failed and water is rising in the pit during a storm.

Can usually wait until morning

  • A toilet that’s clogged but isn’t overflowing - if you have a second bathroom.
  • A slow drip from a faucet you can shut off at the angle stop.
  • A running toilet you can stop by closing the supply valve.
  • Low water pressure that started gradually.
  • A water heater making noise but still producing hot water.

We’ll still come out for non-emergencies, just at the regular flat rate during the next available slot.

What you can do in the next 60 seconds

While we’re on the way, these steps stop most emergencies from getting worse.

Shut off water

Main valve is usually inside the basement on the wall closest to the street, or just past your water meter. Turn clockwise until tight. If you can’t find it, the curb stop at the property line works - we have keys on the truck.

Kill the breaker

If water is anywhere near outlets, an electric water heater, or an appliance, shut the relevant breaker at the panel. Don’t step into standing water to do it.

Move what you can

Pull rugs, electronics, and important paperwork out of the affected area. We’ll handle the rest. Take a few cell phone photos - useful for your insurance claim.

Emergencies we get most often (and how we fix them fast)

Frozen pipe burst

January and February in Central PA. Most failures are at exterior walls, in unheated crawlspaces, or in attics with insufficient insulation. We thaw safely, replace the failed section, and identify what caused the freeze so it doesn’t happen again next winter.

Sewer backup

Toilets bubbling when the washer drains, multiple fixtures backing up at once, sewage smell in the basement. We jet the line, scope it to confirm, and quote any underlying repair separately. We don’t pressure-sell the lining job in the middle of an emergency.

Water heater leak from the tank

The tank itself has rusted through - not repairable. We shut off, drain safely, and quote a same-night replacement if you have hot water needs (kids, elderly family, sick household). Otherwise we can install in the morning at the same price.

Burst supply line under a sink

Most often the braided supply hose at a toilet or sink. We replace with a quality braided stainless line, check the angle stop, and pressure-test. 30–40 minutes from arrival in most cases.

FAQ during an emergency

How quickly can you actually get here?
In Dillsburg proper, usually under an hour. Mechanicsburg and Carlisle, 60–90 minutes. Camp Hill and Harrisburg can be longer depending on bridge traffic. Our dispatcher will give you a real ETA, not a window.
Are you charging more for after-hours?
No. Same flat rate as a Tuesday afternoon. We don’t believe in charging panic prices.
Will you give me a price before you start?
Yes. Once we’ve seen the situation, you get a flat-rate quote in writing. You approve before we work.
Do you take insurance claims?
We don’t bill carriers directly, but we provide a detailed invoice with photos, parts, and labor that adjusters accept without follow-up.
What if it turns out not to be plumbing?
We’ll tell you. If it’s an HVAC, electrical, or roofing issue we’ll point you to a tradesperson we trust. The diagnostic fee still applies for our visit.

Don’t wait. Call our 24/7 line.
